After being cast out from New Japan, the latest Rai, a technologically enhanced hero engineered to defend New Japan and protect it from all enemies, sets out on a mission to assemble the last surviving legends of Earth to wage a rebellion against New Japan and bring it crashing back down to Earth.

4001 A.D. #1 will be written by Matt Kindt with artwork from Clayton Crain. It will feature a number of variant covers from Clayton Crain, Tula Lotay, Ryan Bodenheim, Clayton Henry, Ryan Lee, and Ryan Sook as well as a blank cover. 4001 A.D. #1 hits comic book shelves on May 4, 2016.
