Frank Miller Returns to the World of ‘300’ in Brand New Series
Comic book legend Frank Miller is still going strong. He’s teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to both write and draw a brand new five issue series, Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander. Alex Sinclair, who provided colors for Miller’s Dark Knight III: The Master Race, will join him as the colorist.
Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander will follow the Persian King Xerxes as he sets out to conquer the world and avenge his father Darius’s defeat. He will create an empire unlike anything the world has ever seen. But he’ll face a Greek god-king in Alexander the Great that might be more than his match.
“300 was an interlude in the great story of the Persian Wars. The battle of 300 represented one episode in a much greater series of wars,” said Xerxes creator Frank Miller. “This series tells the story of the first great clash of civilizations, the first bloody contest between east and west. The odds vastly favor the Persian forces, but the Greeks have Alexander, the greatest military commander of all time.”
Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander will be a five-issue series with each issue featuring thirty plus pages of story. Each issue will also feature wrap-around covers in a deluxe collector format.
The first issue comes to comic book stores on April 4, 2018. It will retail for $4.99.
I’m definitely going to be picking this one up. Frank Miller is still one of the premiere comic book creators in the industry. His Dark Knight III: The Master Race proved that. I can’t wait to see how he reimagines the wars of Alexander the Great and the Greco-Persian Wars involving Xerxes. It’s sure to be an epic.
300 was adapted to film by Zack Snyder with an iconic portrayal of the Spartan hero Leonidas by Gerard Butler. The film also starred Lena Headey as Gorgo, Queen of Sparta as it recounted the heroic Battle of Thermopylae. A sequel to 300 starring Eva Green and Sullivan Stapleton depicted the Battle of Artemisium and Battle of Salamis.
