The story will take place following the events of the original Plant of the Apes film from 1968. It will see Dr. Zaius and General Ursus lead an expedition into the Forbidden Zone in order to destroy evidence of Taylor’s time among them. Taylor played by Charlton Heston was a member of a space crew that arrived back on Earth on November 25, 3978 only to discover the planet was now run by Apes! Dr. Zaius and General Ursus are attempting to destroy any evidence in order to maintain control. However, when they arrive in the Forbidden Zone, they discover a KONG!

“There’s such a deep mythology to both properties, especially if you consider all of the amazing Kong and Apes comics that have come out in recent years,” said Ryan Ferrier. “With this series, we’ve found a coherent, meaningful way of having these two worlds and their legacies fold into each other. The implications of the Ape civilization discovering the Kong world are huge, and that’s certainly on the forefront of the series.”

Ferrier is no stranger to monster comics. He worked on IDW Publishing’s Godzilla Rage Against Time. Artist Carlos Magno is a veteran of both series having worked on Planet of the Apes as well as Kong of Skull Island.

Kong on the Planet of the Apes will be a collaboration between BOOM! Studios, DeVito Artworks, and 20th Century Fox. It will feature multiple variant covers from Mike Huddleston, Carlos Magno, and Hans Woody. The series is expected to debut in November.
