Magdalene Visaggio to Write New Dazzler One-Shot for Marvel

Dazzler: X Song #1

Writer Magdalene Visaggio and artist Laura Braga will write a brand new Dazzler one-shot, Dazzler: X Song.

Marvel tells us “there’s never been a cooler time to be a mutant in the Brooklyn punk scene, especially with Dazzler and her new band taking center stage.”

Dazzler will take over the Brooklyn underground punk scene. However, it’s not all glitz and glam as her world quickly turns to danger and violence. Dazzler must protect her Inhuman fans “even if doing so means that she to turn to her own past for clues and answers.”

Magdalene Visaggio describes the new series:

“Dazzler has always been one of my favorite X-Men, and one of the most sadly underutilized. She’s been wandering for so long, and I’m so excited to help bring her back to her musical roots and the X-family. Anyone who knows my work knows how much I love to frontline women who quite literally rock, and I hope me and Laura can bring some of that same energy and positivity to Dazzler.”

Interestingly enough Dazzler appears to have a new hairdo on the cover, but based on these interior panels it looks like she still has her long hair. Although it is possible she could be wearing a wig as the cover also shows Dazzler with long hair on the big screen behind the character.

Dazzler: X Song #1 comes to comic shelves everywhere on June 6, 2018. It will feature a cover by Elizabeth Torque.

The one-shot does appear to follow Marvel’s current comic strategy which is create comics that align with major movie releases. There is a rumor that Dazzler is expected to show up in Fox’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix and will be played by The Orville’s Halston Sage.

However, the choice to put Magdalene Visaggio on the book is an interesting one by Marvel. The author is a controversial figure in comics circles and has been accused of being “Fansphobic” by comic critic Diversity & Comics.
