Arnold Schwarzenegger Joins Cast for Kung Fury Movie!
Kung Fury broke the internet when it debuted in 2015. It quickly garnered a cult following and became its own phenomenon with the non-stop action and classic ’80s style comedy. But now the film looks to hit the big leagues for a sequel and they’ve brought in one of the biggest action stars with Arnold Schwarzenegger!
The Hollywood Reporter notes Schwarzenegger will join the cast of the feature-length follow-up to Kung Fury. He will join fellow ’80s mainstay David Hasselhoff as well as X-Men stud Michael Fassbender. Fassbender is known for his exceptional performance as Magneto.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will play the American President. Something that has been joked about in television and films for decades. The movie is set to begin shooting in Europe and the US this summer. Schwarzenegger won’t get much rest between his role as the U.S. President and his work in the upcoming Terminator film.
The upcoming feature-length sequel will be set in 1985 Miami. Kung Fury and his Thundercops, policemen from across time, work tirelessly to keep the world safe from villainous forces of Kung Fuhrer. A Kung Fu powered Adolf Hilter.
However, Kung Fury sees his Thundercop team disband after the tragic death of one of their own. An unknown villain emerges from the shadows to aid Kung Fuhrer in his quest to obtain the ultimate weapon.
Now, Kung Fury must traverse time and space to save the day and defend the honor of the Miami Kung Fu Academy.
This sounds amazing for so many reasons. I remember watching the first short and being entertained from start to finish. The fact that this movie doesn’t take itself extremely seriously is a major plus. Now add some newness into the mix and it sounds like we might have a great flick.
There is no release date for the film yet. However, it already has some major producers attached to the project. David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Aaron Schmidt of KatzSmith Productions, who recently produced the It remake will be producing the Kung Fury sequel. They will be joined by Philip Westgren of B-Reel Films and Conor McCaughen. Pelle Strandberg will executive producer through Laser Unicorns.
It’s unclear how this new project will be distributed, but The Hollywood Report notes, “buyers are already buzzing over the script.” The first film has been on Netflix before and I personally hope to see Netflix pick up the sequel so I don’t have to deal with movie theaters.
