In the latest ostensible example of the Marvel Cinematic Universe having very little confidence towards the prospect of her return, Brie Larson has again admitted that she has no idea as to what plans exist regarding her franchise future as Captain Marvel.

The actress offered this latest confirmation of the studio’s seeming lack of interest towards the Human/Kree hybrid’s on-screen return while giving a red carpet interview to Extra TV ahead of the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Asked by the outlet’s Terri Seymour if she could “tell us a little bit about Marvel and what’s coming up for your next Marvel project,” Larson quickly ended that line of discussion with a shake of her head and the rather abrupt declaration, “I don’t have anything to say about that.”

As noted above, this is not the first instance in which the actress was unable to confirm just where her next MCU adventures, if any, might take her.

Pressed by Variety’s Marc Malkin as to “How long will you play Captain Marvel for?” during the 2022 D23 Expo, Larson asserted at the time, “I don’t know.”

“Does anyone want me to do it again?” she flippantly questioned in turn. “I don’t know. I really don’t know. I don’t have an answer for that.”

However, of interesting note is the fact that though Larson’s uncertainty towards her Marvel career was on full display both in 2022 and during her recent exchange with Extra TV, she offered up a slightly more optimistic take on the entire subject while on the press tour for The Marvels.

Met with the question, “If there’s anything you would still love to see her do that she hasn’t quite done yet?” during her stop over with Entertainment Tonight’s Ash Crossan, the actress affirmed, “Oh goodness gracious, I think there’s still so much inside of Carol. I feel like getting to be on this team cracked her open in a way that she hadn’t been and I really loved that for her. I just loved her letting the shoulders drop a little bit and not need to feel like all the responsibility was on her.”

“I think that there’s just so much more to go,” she added. “I mean, she’s just a great character to continue to grow with. It’s like I’m growing, she’s growing. I don’t want Marvel to come for me, but yeah, there is just something, definitely something, that I would want to say but I’m not going to, so I will just say it’s here, and I hear what you’re saying.”

Ultimately, whether this ‘positive speculation’ on Larson’s part or her other declarations of frustrated uncertainty are closer to the truth remain to be seen as the MCU continues its slow march towards Secret Wars.

To this end, as of writing, Marvel Studios has yet to publicly confirm when, if at all, Larson’s Captain Marvel will be called up from her porch in New Orleans – where she was last seen at the end of The Marvels – to next appear in their eponymous cinematic universe.
