Could Dave Bautista Be Meeting with Warner Bros. to Discuss Playing Bane in The Batman?
Dave Bautista created a stir with a photo on social media this week, leading to speculation he is going after a role most fans say he’s perfect for – Bane.
The retired wrestler and prolific actor, famous for playing Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, posted a selfie on Twitter of himself next to the old Warner Bros. logo on the studio lot. He captioned the photo “It won’t come to you so get after it!! #DreamChaser.”

Though Bautista didn’t indicate what dream he’s chasing or if it relates to anything DC, fans were quick to respond en masse predicting he will play arch Batman nemesis, Bane.
Confirmed: @DaveBautista is Bane lol

Bane of Humanity
Bane is the mysterious prisoner-turned-criminal mastermind from Santa Frisca who broke the Bat. Co-created by Chuck Dixon, he made his grand debut leading into Knightfall, became one of Batman’s elite villains, and never looked back.
He has made multiple appearances in comics, cartoons, and animated features throughout the years. His live-action debut was in 1997’s Batman & Robin, played by yet another wrestler – the late Robert “Jeep” Swenson – who never reached the heights of Bautista on screen or in the ring.

The look and abilities of Bane were right in Batman & Robin but he lacked the renowned cunning and intelligence. Tom Hardy came closer in The Dark Knight Rises by channeling Bane’s personality, making the character better known in popular culture while at it.
Knightfall’s infamous backbreaker was even recreated yet, sadly, Venom – which gives Bane his strength – was out of the equation and his origin was altered quite a bit to give him ties to Talia and the League of Shadows from the get-go.
Bane has yet to appear in the DC Extended Universe. Talk of Bautista joining it as the new Bane has been the buzz online since June when he quoted a tweet and said he accepts if the offer comes.

Coincidentally, Matt Reeves’ The Batman is ready to roll into production amid rumors Reeves will add more villains to the mix. Bane is possible but his presence is not slated.
Bautista, a friend of James Gunn, almost wound up in The Suicide Squad as another character, Peacemaker. Scheduling got in the way and that role went to John Cena – who is beginning to hit his stride in Hollywood.

Feet of Clay
There might be one other character Bautista is meeting with Warner about. Late in August, GQ South Africa ran with speculation he’d be up for a standalone villain movie in the vein of Joker centering around the Matt Hagen version of Clayface.
This idea was spurred on by a response to a tweet by author BJ Mendelson in which Bautista “enthusiastically” agreed WB should give Hagen a movie.
I going to enthusiastically agree with you on that! 🙌🏽 https://t.co/ehPMYu4QPe

Bautista clarified to GQ he likes comic characters and would pursue any chance at a standalone movie for one if he can’t get Drax a solo adventure. He added he questions the value Marvel sees in him and Drax as a viable spinoff.
Point is I freaking love comic book characters and I want a stand alone. @MarvelStudios doesn’t see worth in #drax or possibly myself or both but I’m not giving up. I missed out on a DC project because of scheduling conflicts but hopefully there’s other characters & opportunities https://t.co/OX1XDnbmk9

Before this, Bautista threatened to quit Drax and Guardians of the Galaxy over James Gunn’s brief firing. Gunn was rehired a short time later and will be making GOTG 3 with his leading actor who also has Denis Villeneuve’s Dune remake coming out.
