Our First Look At Zazie Beetz’s Domino And Rob Liefeld’s Brand New Sketch!
This week has been packed with so much Deadpool news, it’s almost as if the upcoming movie sequel needed its own CSPAN coverage.
Earlier this week, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch talked a little bit about Cable and Domino and how they would be written in the new film. Then a few days ago we were treated to some teasing by Leitch about a few fan theories roaming the internet. Now we’re being bombarded with images of the latter character, Domino, portrayed by Zazie Beetz.
It was only months ago Marvel fans were viewing concept art pieces for Domino, Cable, and Deadpool in an X-men t-shirt. Now we have images of Zazie Beetz as the mercenary with the trademark tattoo around her eye littering the internet.
Add to that images by Deadpool 2 writer Rob Liefeld’s earliest sketches of Domino at her inception just released on Wednesday.
Then Liefeld put together a sketch of Beetz’s Domino.
What Do We Know About The X-Force mercenary?
Domino was created by the writing and art team of Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld. She was introduced in 1991 in New Mutants: Volume 1 #8. However, when she was first presented, it was actually an imposter of Domino who appeared in that issue. The real Domino made her debut in X-Force: Volume 1 #11 published more than a year later in 1992.
Domino was a test subject for kick starting mutant powers just like Deadpool. The mutation process made her skin turn pale white. The tattoo around her eye is more a mark of her being part of the program. Domino is the only one to survive the mutation process. However, her power to alter probabilities is deemed a failure by her handlers.
Sometime after, Domino becomes a mercenary for a group called the Wild Pack, (A.K.A. Six Pack). There, she meets the time-traveler Cable, as he is the leader of the group at the time. She ends up captured during one mission by a weapons dealer named Tolliver. She is imprisoned for a time until Cable’s new team, the X-Force, rescues her. After being freed, she joins the X-Force as a second in command and de-facto leader in Cable’s absence.
We get a bit of Domino’s history with Deadpool in that first teased photo of Zazie. Here, she lays him out like a rug beneath her. In the comics, she first meets Deadpool while a prisoner in Tolliver’s mansion. He ends up freeing her accidentally, and she ends up shooting him.
The Deadpool/Domino Relationship On Screen
Many fans who might be familiar with this relationship are eager to see how this will play out on screen. That coupled with Josh Brolin’s stoic Cable as a foil to Deadpool will make this quite an enjoyable movie. We hope the writing team who delivered the Deadpool movie to box office success will bring even more to Deadpool 2.
Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
