New Synopsis Announced For Paul W.S. Anderson And Milla Jovovich’s Monster Hunter Film
Screen Gems, Constantin Films, Tencent Pictures, and Toho recently announced a new synopsis for writer and director Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming Monster Hunter film.
The most recent synopsis courtesy of IMDB reveals that Lt. Artemis is transported to a new world where they fight for survival against incredible enemies.
Here’s that full description:
“When Lt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported to a new world, they engage in a desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers. Feature film based on the video game by Capcom.”
However, a new synopsis provides much more detail for the upcoming film.
The new synopsis begins, “Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity.”
It continues, “When an unexpected sandstorm transports Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower.”
“In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman),” the synopsis adds.
It concludes, “Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.”
Anderson previously detailed to Empire that he specifically wrote the role of Lt. Artemis for Jovovich. He explained, “I wrote the role of Artemis for Milla as the avatar for the player, so she could be a grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter.”
Jovovich added, “Yeah, she’s not based on a character from the game. Paul wrote her as the captain of a team of Army Rangers that go in to rescue their colleagues.”
As for the weapons Jovovich’s Artemis chooses, Anderson explained they are based on her game character, “Although Milla’s character’s not specifically in the game, she chose the same armour and weapons she uses in the game, so there were aspects of her game character that got folded into the movie representation.”
Jovovich would go on to explain why Artemis uses the Dual Blades, “I experimented with different weapons during the game and was able to kill more monsters with those blades.”
She added, “I thought they’d look really beautiful in an action sequence.”
The film is produced by Jeremy Bolt, Paul W.S. Anderson, Dennis Berardi, Robert Kulzer, and Martin Moszkowicz.
Monster Hunter stars Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, Tip T.I. Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung, and Ron Perlman.
Monster Hunter will be rated by PG-13 for “sequences of creature action and violence throughout.” The film is expected to be released on April 23, 2021
