Shazam! Post Credit Scene Explained
**Warning Spoilers for Shazam! Below**
Director David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! film has two end credit scenes, the first is a mid-credit scene, and the second takes place after all of the credits have rolled.
The mid-credit scene shouldn’t actually surprise keen-eyed viewers who spotted a certain Captain Marvel villain being housed in the Rock of Eternity. However, after Sivana’s attack where he releases the Seven Deadly Sins, the little green guy is nowhere to be seen. In fact, his glass cage is broken.
For fans of the comics, you will recognize this villain as Mister Mind.
In the mid-credit scene. We are taken to a prison cell where Mark Strong’s Thaddeus Strong is seen furiously writing the symbols to enter the Rock of Eternity throughout his cell wall. It’s to no avail. He can no longer gain entry to the Rock of Eternity.
After breaking his writing utensil, Mister Mind’s voice can be heard chiding Sivana, referring to the symbols as something akin to child’s play. As Sivana realizes the voice is coming from the small caterpillar-like creature, Mister Mind tells him that he has grand plans for him and the realms of magic. He tells Sivana, the wizard Shazam, the Seven Deadly Sins, and the Rock of Eternity are not the only source of magic. He hints there is even stronger, and greater magic out there to be taken.
The scene is definitely a setup for a sequel with Mister Mind and potentially Sivana being the main villains. It’s possible it might allude to the formation of the Monster Society of Evil.
One thing is clear, the scene was definitely inspired by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s run on Justice League.
For those unfamiliar with Mister Mind, the character first appeared as a voice in Fawcett Comics’ Captain Marvel Adventures #22. The character would be officially revealed in Captain Marvel Adventures #26. He formed one of the first supervillain teams in the Monster Society of Evil. The team would regularly oppose Captain Marvel and the Marvel family.
Fawcett Comics would later be acquired by DC Comics, and the character would undergo some changes. Jerry Ordway would reveal Mister Mind comes from the planet Venus and has significant powers including mind control, telepathy, and mental image projection.
The character has remained a foe to Shazam and was most recently referenced in Geoff Johns, Dale Eaglesham, Marco Santucci, and Mayo “Sen” Naito’s [easyazon_link identifier=”B07L47NFK7″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Shazam #3[/easyazon_link]. It appears Mister Mind has been very busy as he allegedly invaded a number of the realms in the Magiclands and “nearly destroyed” them.
Are you excited about the prospect of Mister Mind and the Magiclands being adapted for the big screen?
