Stars Wars: The Last Jedi Gets Surprising Audience Score
Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have been one of the most hyped movies of the year. Critic reaction has been exceptional. On Rotten Tomatoes, it’s currently sitting at 93% with an average rating of 8.2/10. On Metacritic critics, the movie stands at an 86 with 51 positive reviews and 3 mixed reviews.
However, audience scores show a very different reception to the film. On Rotten Tomatoes the score stands at 57% with an average rating of 3.4/5 from close to 64,000 ratings. And it’s been going down throughout the day.
Here’s some of the negative reviews showing up on Rotten Tomatoes:
This was the worst Star Wars movie ever! They ruined the character of Luke Skywalker completely. The writing was atrocious as well as the narrative. I left the theater completely let down.
Another voiced his dissatisfaction with the way they treated the characters:
I didn’t love EP7, but I eventually appreciated it for what it was. I knew going in that Luke was going to be not what I expected. . .but come on! Rey’s story arc is now completely uninteresting to me. Was the whole point of this trilogy to destroy the Skywalker story? There were some great moments but overall I do not like where they took the Skywalker family.
Another called it the worst film of the franchise:
As if it wasn’t already clear, we can now fully see what Disney intends to do with the Star Wars franchise. This film was a pitiful display of corporate values through the form of over-used cutesy characters, frequent over the top forced comedy during serious moments, and loosely connected plot elements strewn together through serious writing gymnastics. Unfortunately as it stands, this is the worst film of the franchise.
And if you weren’t getting the pattern, here’s one more:
Total bastardization of Lucas’s Star Wars. These people should be ashamed of themselves. I was an actual fan back in the 80s. I “liked” TFA. I “liked” Rogue One. But I think I’m at my breaking point. Disney was a mistake.
On Metacritic, it’s faring even worse with audiences. It has a 5.3/10 with 329 positive reviews, 103 mixed reviews, and 294 negative reviews.
On Metacritic they might have been even harsher in their negative reviews.
McGillotine said:
Intolerable, inept and above all boring, the Last Jedi is bad fan-fiction at-best. … The Last Jedi promoted itself as being the next Empire Strikes Back. Yet we managed to get something more sloppy than Attack of the Clones, with uneven pacing, incomplete arcs, and an all-round lack of appreciation for continuity or the force itself.
The J-Man called it “the worst Star Wars movie imaginable a truly appalling effort.Makes The Phantom Menace look like Citizen Kane. It plays out like a movie made by someone who has never seen Star Wars and has no clear understanding of the lore or the characters involved. Kathy Kennedy and Disney have really got it wrong this time.
One reviewer, JuanOvus even questioned critic scores:
Did critics see the same movie that I did? I cannot comprehend how a movie as disastrous as this can have such a high score. They literally took a huge dump on everything about the original trilogy. I think this raises questions about the influence of Disney in “critics” reviews.
Granted there are positive audience scores, but these negative reviews are adding up and they all seem to be saying the same thing. Will you still go see Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
