Suicide Squad directed by David Ayer and featuring some of DC Comics’ baddest villains on the planet just won an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hair Design.
This is the first Oscar the DC Extended Universe has won. [easyazon_link identifier=”B01M1XUQPR” locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Suicide Squad[/easyazon_link] defeated Star Trek Beyond and Swedish film A Man Called Ove.
Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, and Christopher Nelson were the first-time winners.

Warner Bros. has brought in Oscars from other DC properties before. Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor for [easyazon_link identifier=”B001XUPF2O” locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]The Dark Knight[/easyazon_link]. Christopher Nolan’s second film also won the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing. Additionally, Tim Burton’s [easyazon_link identifier=”B0013WJGJ0″ locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Batman[/easyazon_link] won Best Art Direction.
The DC Extended Universe will continue later this year with Wonder Woman and Justice League with plans for 15 more movies including a Suicide Squad sequel, a spinoff featuring Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy, and another spinoff featuring Deadshot.
