The First Purge Trailer Debuts

The First Purge

Universal Studios released the first trailer for The First Purge, which you can see above. The film will detail how The Purge came about and if what the trailer shows us it looks like the government was definitely getting involved as it sent in soldiers disguised as citizens to start hunting people down. Interestingly enough it doesn’t look like citizens were actually participating in The Purge until the government soldiers were sent in.

Here’s the official description from Universal:

“Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.”

The First Purge follows in the wake of The Purge: Election Year, The Purge: Anarchy, and The Purge. The Purge creator James DeMonaco returns to write the screenplay for director Gerard McMurray.

The film will star Marisa Tomei, Luna Lauren Velez, Y’Lan Noel, Joivan Wade, and Lex Scott Davis. It is being produced by Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form’s Platinum Dunes, and Sébastien K. Lemercier.

The First Purge will release on Independence Day, July 4, 2018.
