‘The Marvels’ Trailer Doubles Down On Quirky MCU Humor, Reveals Another Gender Swapped MCU Villain
Marvel Studios released their first teaser trailer for the upcoming The Marvels film and it is front-loaded with more of the production company’s quirky humor that moviegoers have finally begun to reject.
The trailer introduces an odd mechanic that sees Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris’ Captain Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel swapping physical locations with each other when they activate their abilities after Rambeau enters a wormhole.
This mechanic is the basis of the quirky humor as the characters have various reactions when they are transported to each other’s different locations.
It’s unclear how long these gags will last in the actual film as the teaser trailer shows the trio do eventually get to the same location removing the opportunities for the insertion of this quirky humor that the trailer frontloads.
It’s quite likely they’ll do some kind of training together where they can activate their powers and quickly teleport to each other’s locations to perform Dragon Ball style combinations.
Along with the trailer we did get an official description for the film that reveals the wormhole is connected to a Kree revolutionary.
In fact, the trailer appears to show a woman wielding a very similar hammer to the one Ronan wielded in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. She’s also surrounded by other Kree soldiers.

It’s revealed this woman is actually a gender-swapped version of the obscure Kree character Dar-Benn, who in the comics plotted with General Ael-Dan to assassinate the current ruler of the Kree, Clumsy Foulup, and take control of the empire with an android version of Silver Surfer that would be used to place the blame on the Skrulls back in 1991’s Silver Surfer #53.
Their plot would be highly successful as the Silver Surfer assassinated Clumsy Foulup and Generals Dar-Benn and Ael-Dan took control of the Kree Empire and with their first act instituted martial law.
The official description reads, “In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.”
It continues, “When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”
The film not only stars Larson, Parris, and Vellani, but also Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Zawe Ahston as Dar-Benn, and Park Seo-joon. The film is directed by Nia DaCosta based off a screenplay by Megan McDonnell, DaCosta, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. The film is executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins. Kevin Feige is the producer.
The film arrives in theaters on November 10th.
