Star Trek: Discovery Debuts Kenneth Mitchell As Fearsome Klingon Commander Kol!
Thanks to this year’s Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas a ton of information has been released for the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery show.
We previously learned about the news of a tie-in comic series and novel. Now, we get our first look at Klingon Commander Kol. In full makeup, actor Kenneth Mitchell in costume looks quite menacing as Commander Kol. Take a look below!
Speaking on a panel at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention. Mitchell recalled showing his son the photo.
Now all my son wants to do is play Klingon.
He continued with details of the three and a half hour process it took for him to be turned into Command Kol. He also mentioned that the costume took another half hour. With that much time in perpetration to shoot, he spoke about what he did to pass the time along.
“First, Doug Jones (Saru) comes in and gives me a hug,” Mitchell joked at first. “I’m always going over the Klingon language. I’m constantly running my lines over and over again [while getting ready]. Because it’s incredibly difficult. It takes a lot of muscle memory pronouncing the syllables over and over again.”
Mitchell continued.
It’s very much like an opera, Even if you don’t understand the language, you understand the emotions and the body language.
The Klingons will play a major role in Star Trek: Discovery. The show will be set ten years before the Original Series and sees The Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire in a state of war. Because of this fans can imagine that Commander Kol will be a major player affecting the story.
The cast of the upcoming Trek show includes Jason Isaacs as the starship Discovery’s Captain Lorca, James Frain as Sarek, Spock’s father, Rainn Wilson as Star Trek: The Original Series character Harry Mudd, and Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou. Yeoh will play the captain of another Starfleet ship, the Shenzhou, which will play an important role in Star Trek: Discovery.
Also rounding out the cast will be Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp. Both of which will be playing science officers. Mary Wiseman will play a final year Starfleet Academy cadet.
What do you think of Commander Kol’s look? Pretty fearsome for a Klingon!
Star Trek: Discovery premieres Sept. 24, 2017, on CBS All Access in the United States and on Netflix across the Globe.
