This won’t be the first time we’ve seen Poison Ivy on Fox’s Gotham. Two other actresses have taken on the mantle of Gotham’s age-shifting Poison Ivy. Maggie Geha took on the role in Season 3 while Clare Foley played the part before her. It’s unclear whether Peyton List will become a recurring guest star as Poison Ivy this season or if she will be joining the show in Season 5.
In a statement, producers of Gotham shed some light on Poison Ivy, and the reasoning behind the casting change:
In the continuing evolution of Poison Ivy’s origin story, Ivy Pepper has been transformed once again taking another step toward becoming the Ivy we know from the comics. Dangerous. A live wire of crazy energy. She’ll set her sights on Gotham, intent on making the city her own green paradise.
For her part, Peyton List has plenty of experience on screen including the superhero world. She’s appeared in Frequency as Raimy Sullivan and in AMC’s Mad Men as Jane Sterling. She also previously worked in the superhero genre with recurring roles on Smallville and more recently The Flash, where she plays Lisa Snart aka the Golden Glider.
Gotham has worked hard in putting the spotlight on the origin stories of the Caped Crusader’s greatest foes. We’ve had hits such as the Penguin and Catwoman who have captured the imagination of fans. While others have been more controversial like Jerome and his Joker-like persona. Though praised for his performance as Jerome fans were left a bit disappointed when the producer claimed he wasn’t the Joker.
