Bane will be played by actor Shane West. As you can see from the photo above, Bane looks a lot more like Darth Vader or even Saw Gerrera from [easyazon_link identifier=”B01N6EK2CT” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Rogue One[/easyazon_link].
He appears to have some kind of breathing apparatus just like Gerrera and Darth Vader. He also has what appears to be some kind of high tech chest piece. It’s possible this chest piece could be pumping Venom into his veins if Gotham decides to still use that aspect of the character. It’s more than likely they are as you can see red makeup underneath West’s eyes indicating he’s definitely taking some kind of drugs.
This is a radically different version of Bane from what we’ve seen in other media. Tom Hardy’s Bane in The Dark Knight Rises wore a chest piece, but it was more practical operating as a piece of armor. He also wore a big thick coat. His one identifying component was the Bane mask.
Bane first appeared in [easyazon_link identifier=”B000I8XQEQ” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Vengeance of Bane #1[/easyazon_link] and was created by Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan. As you can see below his original design is much different than what Gotham will be giving fans. He wears a luchador mask and he pumps Venom into his brain every 12 hours in order to ensure he doesn’t suffer the drugs devastating side-effects. You can see the tubes running into the back of his head.
In [easyazon_link identifier=”B003VFO8G8″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Vengeance of Bane #2[/easyazon_link], you can see that he injects the Venom via a controller on his left hand which runs into the back of his head.
What do you make of this new design for Gotham? Do you like this one or would you rather them use a design closer to the original?
