Could Buffy The Vampire Slayer Get A Reboot?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Could we see a return of the beloved cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Well, it seems that there just might be a chance, but it all depends on Joss Whedon. According to Deadline, Fox Chairman and CEO Gary Newman spoke at the INTV conference in Jerusalem confirming that talks have taken place about the possibility of rebooting the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television show. Newman said the ball is in creator Joss Whedon’s court. Newman explains, “It’s something we talk about talk about frequently. Joss Whedon is one of the greatest creators we’ve ever worked for. When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it.” Those are some pretty strong words that might lead some to believe a reboot is on the way.

Newman made his comments during a talk centered around the trend of rebooting beloved series. Fox has already created reboots around The X-Files and 24. They are also co-producing The Greatest American Hero reboot as well as a new Prison Break. Althought X-Files isn’t really a hard reboot, but more of a continuation from the previous series.

While Newman put the ball in Whedon’s court he also was hesitant about reboots and clarified the goals of Fox TV around them,

“Reboots aren’t actually a focus for us. Most of the time it starts with a creator coming in. Admittedly, we chased The X-Files for a while. But when we first brought it back it was Chris and David and Gillian. The 24 franchise… we’ll always want it.”

It looks like there are still quite a few posts to pass before we see a possible Buffy revival. The original series starred Sarah Michell Gellar as the title character, Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The show also starred David Boreanaz, who later went off to star in his own spin-off Angel. That show had one of the greatest series endings ever. Debate me on this!

Along with Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz it also starred Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Head, Nicholas Brendon, Michelle Trachtenberg, Charisma Carpenter, Seth Green, Eliza Dushku, and James Marsters.

For many fans, it was ahead of its time and ran over seven seasons. The final episode aired in 2003.
