Pennyworth: Young Alfred Pennyworth Cast in Epix Batman Prequel
Epix found their leading man in Jack Bannon for the upcoming Batman prequel, Pennyworth.
The show comes from the mind of Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller, but will not be connected to the Fox television show. Instead it will focus on an Alfred Pennyworth in his 20s. It’s more than likely he will be portrayed in his late 20s as he’s already being described as a former British SAS soldier. He will form his own security company and work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne in 1960s London.
This will be Bannon’s first television role for US audiences. He’s previously appeared in Endeavor as Sam Thursday and in The Loch as Kieran Whitehead. His biggest claim to fame is his role as Christopher Morcom in [easyazon_link identifier=”B00R7FRTWI” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]The Imitation Game[/easyazon_link] alongside Benedict Cumberbatch.
The series’ first season will be 10 episodes long and will debut on the Epix network.
The Hollywood Reporter provides a description of Alfred Pennyworth:
“Alfred is described as a boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London. Honest, open-faced and witty, he’s the kind of person people would never take for a SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.”
The show’s script will be written by Heller. It will be executive produced by Danny Cannon, who will also direct the pilot episode. Cannon also executive produced and directed the first episode of Gotham.
The show is expected to begin production on October 22 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom.
