Rumor: Disney Streaming Service Could Feature Something Bigger and Better than Nick Fury
There are several rumors swirling around about the Disney Streaming Service and what we might be seeing when it finally debuts.
I’m speaking mostly to the comic book crowd, because most of us won’t care about the old Ducktales animated series or Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers. What we care about is what they do with the Marvel IP. The ones they have and the ones they are getting. The Avengers. The Guardians of the Galaxy. The Fantastic Four. The X-Men.
What we can confirm is that the streaming service will have the films from the MCU library. This spans from the first [easyazon_link identifier=”B078YDXKRD” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Iron Man[/easyazon_link] all the way to whatever the latest film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be. As of this writing it’s [easyazon_link identifier=”B07J52FGX6″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Ant-Man and The Wasp[/easyazon_link].
What we are unsure of is the plight of some of the recently axed Netflix shows like Luke Cage and Iron Fist, as well as some of the other more mature IPs like Punisher, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil. However, a report from Deadline back in February indicated these shows would stay on Netflix.
The other things we can’t speak on is what happens to the FX series Legion and the Days of Future Past inspired show The Gifted, both shows in the X-Men universe and gathering a lot of critical praise and viewership. Given the Netflix shows would stay on Netflix, it’s more than likely these shows will stay on their respected networks as well.
What comes out today though is, again, more for comic book fans than anything. In a series of tweets from Slashfilm reporter Peter Sciretta, he debunks rumors of Marvel producing a Nick Fury title for the upcoming streaming service. He also teases audiences that they are working on something bigger, and better!
Yes, Disney is working on other Marvel Cinematic Universe shows for their streaming service. But No, from what I’ve heard it’s not a Nick Fury series as reported recently on those unreliable marvel fan sites. It’s something bigger and better. Something more.

Oh and to be clear, we haven’t reported what we’ve heard (even though it’s from a good source) because we’ve yet to find a reliable second source for the information and Disney isn’t commenting.

More Than Loki & The Scarlet Witch
From the sound of it, Disney seems to be working on something bigger than an Omega level mutant and the first greatest villain to enter into the Marvel Cinematic Universe fray. Early reports surrounding Disney’s streaming service indicated Loki, Scarlet Witch, and Nick Fury solo series would show up on the streaming service.
Fans were a bit disappointed with the news, as we are getting to know a bit of Fury’s backstory in the upcoming Captain Marvel film. What is surprising about this news is that aside from knowing Loki’s backstory and following the adventures of Scarlet Witch, there’s new IP being acquired by Disney to feature in their streaming service.
And fans are speculating that it could mean the Fantastic Four are getting their own series.
Now this is total pontificating at this point, as the source of this news is wary of it since they couldn’t find a second source for the information. (I’m also looking for any other sources to confirm, and will update the article when the source confirms/denies the info.) Disney hasn’t made any official confirmation about it either. However, the source for Sciretta seems to be a notable enough individual that he is running with this story.
The Return of the Fantastic Family
Pure Speculation Warning. As we are wont to do.
Some Marvel fans have been waiting for the Fantastic Four to get a fair shake on the big screen. The cheesy productions of the first Fantastic Four film back in 2005 and the sequel [easyazon_link identifier=”B000VL6GRO” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Rise of the Silver Surfer[/easyazon_link] didn’t perform well enough at the box office. And the Fantastic Four reboot of 2009 did even less for the box office numbers, being panned by both audiences and critics.
This has led some fans clamoring for a faithful adaptation of the Fantastic Four to consider them for the smaller screen. This would be a chance to tell their story in a more intimate setting. Theirs becomes more a character study for each of the four. This seems to be the better alternative, rather than trying to rush the narration as the movies tend to do. Netflix has been a successful model in presenting shows that psychologically break down certain heroes of the Marvel Universe. This model may work here for the Four in the way Madmen or Breaking Bad approaches characters. Except maybe without the more adult tones of those series, as it is a family show.
Obviously, Disney will also be getting the X-Men so there’s a possibility we could see them show up on the streaming service as well.
Whether this will happen, we’ll just have to wait and see. What are you thinking this “bigger and better” development is? Sound off in the comments below, or let’s get the conversation going on social media!
