Amy Schumer Says Secret Service Got Involved After Receiving Death Threats For Oscars Joke Involving Kirsten Dunst
If there is one person who can claim to be a victim of abuse at the 2022 Oscars, it’s definitely Amy Schumer.
The biggest story of the last several weeks has been the fallout of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards. While Rock was the person who was assaulted for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, comedienne Amy Schumer wants the world to know that she was also a victim of a joke that she was a part of during the show.
During the 2022 broadcast, Schumer did a scripted bit where she mistook actress Kristen Dunst for a seat filler and kicked her out of her seat in front of her husband Jesse Plemons. Both Plemons and Dunst were nominated in supporting roles for their performances in the film “The Power of the Dog.”

During the comedy bit, Schumer said: “Jesse, I loved you in ‘Power of the Dog,'”
Plemons replied, “You know, that was my wife, Amy.”
“You’re married to that seat filler?” she responded.
The comedy bit didn’t go over well with audiences. Many on social media panned the segment for being unfunny, others on social media thought the bit was real and began to attack Schumer while defending Dunst.
One social media user slammer Amy and commented, “Amy Schumer calling Kirsten Dunst a seat filler bc it’s always the lamest of b****** who think they can make fun of perfect girls.”
Another user called for violence against Schumer over the comment, “Ok but Kirsten Dunst should’ve slapped Amy Schumer at that point….Chris rock ain’t the only one who deserved a b**** slap.”
In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, Schumer revealed that some of the audience thought the bit was real and as a result received death threats since the show.
Schumer explains, “And the Kirsten Dunst — I did a bit with Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons —that was completely orchestrated. We talked beforehand. The joke was that I was pretending like I thought she was a seat filler. And we all worked that out together.”
“I got death threats. I got — the Secret Service reached out to me. They were so bad that the Secret Service reached out to — yeah, about that bit. I’m like, ‘Oh, I think you have the wrong number. This is Amy, not Will. You must have the wrong…’ ‘No you are getting death threats.’ Okay. Not that I want Will to get death threats.
She then added, “But the misogyny is unbelievable.” When Stern asked her to explain why she would get death threats, Schumer responded, “Because they were like you can’t, you can’t do — who do you think you are to disrespect Kirsten Dunst like that?”
Schumer also revealed the LAPD was involved saying, “The Secret Service, the LAPD because it was — they were that serious and that many. And they called me and they were like, ‘Did you make fun of Kristen Dunst at the Oscars.’ ‘Yes, Kirsten. We worked it out. But she was really nice. Her and Jesse are the coolest and she even posted like, ‘Hey, I knew about that bit.’ Because she knew I was getting death threats.”
Schumer is the second cousin to Democrat Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
As noted by Schumer, the Los Angeles Police Department has also looked into the threats against Amy but the extent of their investigation is not known.
It wasn’t just Schumer’s bad comedy bit that got her into trouble. She also took heat from progressives on social media after making the claim that she was “triggered and traumatized” after witnessing Will Smith slap Chris Rock.
“People made fun of me for saying it was traumatizing. I don’t think it was traumatizing for me. I think it was traumatizing for all of us,” she said.

Two weeks ago, the comedienne claimed that she was disturbed by the event in a now deleted Instagram post.
Newsweek reported she said, “Still triggered and traumatized. I love my friend [Chris Rock] and believe he handled it like a pro. Stayed up there and gave an Oscar to his friend [Questlove] and the whole thing was so disturbing.
“So much pain in [Will Smith] anyway I’m still in shock and stunned and sad. I’m proud of myself and my cohosts. But yeah. Waiting for this sickening feeling to go away from what we all witnessed,” she added.
