LEGO and DC Unveil LEGO DC Super-Villains Trailer!
Lego and DC unveiled their first trailer for LEGO DC Super-Villains, which you can watch above. The trailer is an absolute riot. It takes a good 30 seconds to get into the trailer, but once Harley Quinn whips out her boombox and Blondie’s “One Way or Another” begins playing the fun really starts.
A reporter sums it up nicely when she says, “Everything is not okay.” Then we get a scene of Joker’s chomping teeth taking down an elderly man. Reverse Flash then foils an engagement proposal as he swipes the ring in a flash leaving what looks to be a LEGO donut in it’s place. The possible bride-to-be is grossed out!
Poison Ivy then shows up and has a wonderful time taking some selfies with the good ole Gotham City Police Department. She even tries on one of their hats as the officers are all tied up.
That’s when Joker shows up again and takes over the camera telling us, “It’s good to be bad!” He then invites a criminal who is locked in prison to join in. The prisoner begins trying on a number of different outfits and looks as it represents the in-game player and their custom villain character.
We get a nice shot of some cover art unveiling a number of the characters that will appear in game including Joker, Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, Reverse Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Lex Luthor, and Darkseid.
The game will allow players to “a new way to play with their favorite DC characters with a splash of light-hearted, villainous antics,” Said Sean McEvoy VP Digital Games, The LEGO Group. He added, “Players will enjoy exploring the expansive DC universe in the way only a LEGO game can deliver.” In fact, players will actually create their own DC Super-Villain and play with them throughout the game. “Their character becomes the center of the story while teaming up with an iconic variety of villains to adventure through the hilarious and original story written in collaboration with DC,” notes the press release.
The game will feature a campaign mode where “players can create their own unique villain and main character throughout while also teaming up with a variety of DC Super-Villains throughout the story mode. As players progress, they will unlock new abilities, powers and can continue to customize their character to take on the evil threat. Friends and family can join story mode at any time with the fun, two-player, local co-op experiences where players can team up in epic boss fights.”
As for the types of customizations players can expect, Tom Stone, Managing Director for the development team at TT Games explained, “With an unprecedented amount of customization options to choose from, players can create and customize their character at the start of the story, unlocking new powers and abilities as they progress through the funniest LEGO game to date.”
The game will see the Legion of Doom take on the Justice Syndicate, a new group of superheroes.
As for the story Ames Kirshen, Vice President, Interactive & Animation, DC Entertainment reveals, “The original story in Lego DC Super-Villains flips the DC universe upside down as players embark on an unforgettable adventure starring memorable villains set across notable DC locations. “DC’s roster of iconic Super-Villains is unmatched and fans will love teaming up with The Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor and a host of others to save Earth from a greater evil.”
The trailer comes to a close by announcing the game’s release date of October 16, 2018 and unveiling that the game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo’s Switch.
