Avengers 4 star Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, took to Twitter post an emotional Tweet that reads like a goodbye to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In his Tweet, Evans confirms he’s “officially wrapped on Avengers 4.” And while he doesn’t confirm that he is done with the role of Captain America he hints that this might be his last time playing the character as he notes, “It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor.”

Evans has played coy with the idea that there was a possibility he might continue with Captain America following Avengers 4. Back in March, he spoke with the New York Times stating “You want to get off the train before they push you off.”

He also previously spoke with USA Today stating:

“I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t be hard for me. But the passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There’s a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It’s also joyful.”

He added:

“I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it. However they want to proceed after Avengers 4, it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.”

However, in April just before the release of Avengers: Infinity War, Evans hinted he might be able to return to the role. He spoke with Good Morning America telling them:

“Well, the contract is done. A lot of our contracts are through. Myself, Downey, Hemsworth, we all kind of started roughly at the same time. I think we all through Avengers 4 kind of wrap it up. At this point, I don’t know what’s next. By 2019, that’s it.”

However, when pressed by Michael Strahan about the possibility of a return, Evans said, “Well, we’ll see. We’ll see.”

A number of fans reacted to Evans’ Tweet regarding him wrapping up filming for Avengers 4.

Do you think this is Chris Evans’ farewell to fans? Could he return to Captain America? Do you want him to return to Captain America?
