IDW Games has just launched a KickStarter campaign for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past, a scenario-driven, miniatures-based combat board game designed by Kevin Wilson.
“Kickstarter seems like an incredibly fun way to show the game to the fans,” said Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator, Kevin Eastman. “It’s almost like having a month long convention celebrating all things Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We’ll be able to show off all kinds of aspects of this awesome game and the IDW comic universe it comes from. There’s so much to be really excited for, but I’ll save some of the fun for when the campaign’s actually live!”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past will feature story content from the ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IDW comic. The game features a lasting story arc that allows two to five players to battle their way through a series of 60-90 minute missions. Players will develop their characters’ strengths, fighting styles, and equipment throughout gameplay.
“This campaign will allow us to interact with fans and give them a strong idea of what they’ll be getting in this game,” said IDW’s VP of New Product Development, Jerry Bennington. “We feel this is the definitive Turtle board game experience, and with the help of the fans, we’ll upgrade the game and add even more content to it, leveraging our talented staff and even some creators from the past that may surprise you.”
There are two versions of the game backers can choose from with both featuring exclusive boxes and content only available through the KickStarter. Once the KickStarter has reached its goal of $250,000 all backers will not only be able to play as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but as April O’Neil as well.
The KickStarter also features a deluxe “Works Edition” that comes with four exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles miniatures based off Kevin Eastman’s art style.
The minimum pledge for the KickStarter is $80 which gets you the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past exclusive Kickstarter Box, the exclusive April O’Neil Hero Pack, and all applicable stretch goals.
The KickStarter also features some stretch goals. The first being at $265,000. Backers will receive an upgraded Street Thug Gunner. There is also a stretch goal to have an Old Hob miniature included in the game although specific dollar value has not yet been revealed.
As of this posting the KickStarter has 992 backers contributing $100,062 with 22 days to go.
