The new Transformers Bumblebee spin-off is currently shooting in California, and star Hailee Steinfeld tweeted a first look at her character, Charlie Watson, over the weekend:

Everything from the gender-neutral name to the Motorhead muscle tank to her pose communicates that Charlie will be a no-nonsense tough girl. It looks like Transformers is going the way of Star Wars and adding more bad-ass leading heroines to their films.

We don’t know much about the Bumblebee spin-off other than that it takes place in 1987 when Charlie, “on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world” finds Bumblebee in a junkyard “battle-scarred and broken.” Not only will this film have to standalone from the other movies in the Transformers franchise, but will also have to set the stage for any future spin-offs. That’s a tall order, but it’s looking like this film will fit the bill.
