Jennifer Lawrence’s most recent film Red Sparrow hit theaters this weekend. The film doesn’t appear to be doing too well with both critics and fans.
Red Sparrow currently has a 51% rotten rating on the Tomatometer and a 56% audience score. Not only is the film faring poorly with audiences and reviewers, it appears to not be bringing people into the box office. Box Office Mojo reports the Thursday night previews only brought in $1.2 million which is below both Ghost in the Shell and Atomic Blonde’s Thursday night previews. The film is expected to bring in $17 million in its opening weekend which would also fall below Ghost in the Shell’s $18.7 million and Atomic Blonde’s $18.3 million.
Red Sparrow is directed by Francis Lawrence and tells the story of an injured prima ballerina, Dominika Egorova played by Jennifer Lawrence, who is recruited to become a top Russian spy in Russia’s Red Sparrow program. Egorova then becomes twisted in a very dangerous spy game involving both Russian agents and the CIA. Along with Jennifer Lawrence, Red Sparrow stars Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, and Jeremy Irons.
Despite the poor reviews that didn’t stop Jennifer Lawrence from looking absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet during the New York premiere at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
Jennifer Lawrence can next be seen in X-Men: Dark Phoenix where she reprises her role as the mutant Mystique.
