Disney’s Bob Iger Confirms Loki TV Series with Tom Hiddleston in Development!

Disney’s CEO Bob Iger confirmed that a Loki television series starring Tom Hiddleston is currently in development for its upcoming streaming service which will be called Disney+. The show will join the newly announced Star Wars series focused on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor.

Iger didn’t provide any other details about the series, when it could go into production, when it would debut, or what the show would be about.

The Loki series was one of the rumored series along with a Scarlet Witch series. There have also been rumors about a Nick Fury series as well as hints of a potential Fantastic Four or X-Men series. There were also more recent reports indicating there would be a team-up series focused on Winter Soldier and Falcon.

The original report of the possibility of a Loki show indicated it would be 6-8 episodes in length and would have a significant budget.

Speculation

Given the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and the assumed death of Loki, it’s hard to imagine the show taking place in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Loki is the god of mischief, and it’s highly possible he was able to avoid death at the hands of Thanos using his mastery of illusion. He’s been known to do that from time to time.

It’s also possible that whatever happens in Avengers 4 will somehow radically alter the timeline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s highly likely Hiddleston’s Loki will appear in Avengers 4 because we’ve seen set photos of a muzzled Loki that appear to be from the Battle of New York. It’s possible that some kind of time travel and tampering in Avengers 4 could lead Loki to survive the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

Another possibility is the idea that this will be a show that exists in an alternate universe from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe that we’ve come to know. In the original report about the Loki series, a Scarlet Witch series was also reported. It’s possible that series could see Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff create the House of M universe. If Marvel Studios is willing to create a House of M storyline, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they could introduce another universe for this Loki series to inhabit.

I am extremely curious to see where they will take this series and if we will see Thor. Loki isn’t really Loki without his main foil in Thor now is he? That’s not to say Loki can’t take on his own missions. We could see the God of Mischief go on a quest to obtain power in order to finally give himself what he believes he deserves, the throne of the universe.

One thing is for sure is that Disney is loading up it’s huge IPs to its Disney+ streaming platform in order to compete with Netflix.

What are you expecting from this Loki series? Do you think Chris Hemsworth could show up as Thor? What do you want from a Loki TV series?
