Showrunners for Bad Boys’ female-centric TV Spin-off L.A.’s Finest, Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, were injured during filming and rushed to the hospital.
A source for Deadline told them, “multiple people got injured.” Los Angeles Port Police Lt. Philip Heem confirmed there was an accident, “I can confirm there was an accident.” He would also clarify that there were only two injuries. “We had two injures,” Heem relayed. “One being worse than the other.” Those injuries involved showrunners Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the injuries were the result of an on-set accident involving a car crash scene. Margolis and Sonnier were taken to two different L.A. area hospitals. Margolis was taken to San Pedro Peninsula. He was released later that day according to a hospital spokesmen. Brandon Sonnier, on the other hand, was taken to Harbor-UCLA and then transferred to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, according to a Harbor-UCLA spokesman.
After the accident, Sony Pictures Television President Jeff Frost along with co-Presidents Chris Parnell and Jason Clodfelter sent out a joint statement saying, “Our hearts go out to our SPT family members who were injured and we pray for a full recovery.”
Katherine Pope, Head of Spectrum Originals issued her own statement: “We are saddened by this incident and send our most heartfelt wishes to our two beloved crew members, hoping their recovery is both swift and complete.”
Around 1:30 pm in the afternoon, local time, the crew was filming at the Water Taxi filing location at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. The crash occurred during a stunt driving sequence when the vehicle hit a set object.
Deadline’s source indicates the set object was a cargo crate. They then indicate that either the cargo crate or the vehicle plowed into the video village. A video village is an area where producers and directors watch the scene on monitors. It had been set up behind the crate.
Following the accident production on the show was shut down and they cancelled filming for tomorrow. The show was nearing the end of filming and was expected to wrap up this weekend. It’s unclear when they will finish given the accident.
