Westworld and True Blood alum Evan Rachel Wood took to Twitter to share photos of self-arm which she claims were to try and prevent abuse from her partner. A partner who she alleges threatened to kill her.
Wood first tweeted out several photos from an old photoshoot where she indicated she had been “weakened by an abusive relationship.” She would go on to say she “was emaciated, severely depressed, and could barely stand.”
The day of this photoshoot, I was so weakened by an abusive relationship. I was emaciated, severely depressed, and could barely stand. I fell into a pool of tears and was sent home for the day. #IAmNotOk pic.twitter.com/aVUQ1w8ayQ

She would follow that tweet up with one of her showing cuts on her forearm. She claims that after two years in an abusive relationship she “resorted to self harm.” She states, “When my abuser would threaten or attack me, I cut my wrist as a way to disarm him.” It would only work momentarily she claims, “It only made the abuse stop temporarily. At that point I was desperate to stop the abuse and I was too terrified to leave.”
2 years into my abusive relationship
I resorted to self harm. When my abuser would threaten or attack me, I cut my wrist as a way to disarm him. It only made the abuse stop temporarily. At that point I was desperate to stop the abuse and I was too terrified to leave. #IAmNotOk pic.twitter.com/VtZ1cA7JdBβ #EvanRachelWould (@evanrachelwood) March 11, 2019
Wood would go on tweet that she is not happy about the “current Statue of Limitations holding survivors back from naming their abusers.”
#IAmNotOk with the current Statute of Limitations holding survivors back from naming their abusers. π

She would elaborate:
#IAmNotOk because I will never see justice. I didnt process and recover from my trauma in time and the SOL prevents me from reporting. So please dont keep telling me to go to the police or press charges. I cant.
I can only try and make sure it doesnt happen to others. πβ #EvanRachelWould (@evanrachelwood) March 12, 2019
Statute of limitations =
You are only given a certain amount of time to report. Even if you have evidence. And it varies state to state and it depends on whether its a felony or misdemeanor. You would be shocked what is considered a misdemeanor or a lesser crime.#IAmNotOkβ #EvanRachelWould (@evanrachelwood) March 12, 2019
Evan Rachel Wood would also go on to address the difficulty of women getting out of domestic violence relationships.
If it was this easy Domestic Violence wouldnt be an issue. Everyone would just leave. We also need to work on prevention to stop the violence before it starts. All the responsibility shouldnt be on the victim. π https://t.co/D2ESXwE1Y7

some women have children with their abusers and want to try & help rehabilitate their partners so as not to break up the family and leave the kids without a father. Like addiction, there can be hope for abusers if they are accountable and do the work. But some are beyond that.

Also. Statistically, women are the most likely to be killed by their abuser while they are trying to leave or the six months after theyβve left.

#IAmNotOk with people telling victims to just leave,
when statistically you are the most likely to be killed by an intimate partner when trying to leave or the first six months after youβve left.β #EvanRachelWould (@evanrachelwood) March 11, 2019
In fact, Wood would admit that her abuser threatened to kill her.
They threatened to kill me or have me killed.

Wood would make it clear that she she isn’t just advocating for women who are victims of domestic abuse, but men as well.
Domestic violence impacts all genders, races, sexualities, and economic backgrounds.
Men are in this with us. Men do harm, but men are also abused, usually when they are very young. π https://t.co/ZAr2rm5GjBβ #EvanRachelWould (@evanrachelwood) March 11, 2019
She would also indicate that she sufferes from PTSD and it “had a serious impact” on her life and intimate relationships.
#iamnotOK because I still struggle with PTSD which has had a serious impact on my life and intimate relationships.
β #EvanRachelWould (@evanrachelwood) March 11, 2019
She would eventually post an emotional video where she states she is “still searching for some kind of peace.” She also indicates she’s trying to put the abuse behind her.

Wood would also state that she hasn’t been self-harming herself since the abusive relationship.
Not since then. I have the scars as reminders And I am not ashamed of them. Its a part of who I am emotionally and physically. We heal but we dont forget. https://t.co/uz57XmyLlt

Wood has spoken out about her abusive relationship before. In an interview with Rolling Stone in November of 2016, Wood claimed she had been raped twice.
Iβve been raped. By a significant other while we were together. And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar .β.β.β βI donβt believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer. Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism.
In the same interview she indicated she had attempted suicide at age 22 describing it as “weirdly, the best-worst thing that ever happened to me. βCause it did not work.”
Last year the actress testified before Congress before the House Judiciary Committee. There she pressed the members of Congress for more federal support for victims of sexual assault. In the Instagram post for that day, she stated: “Making herstory with these incredible women, testifying in front of #Congress today. Still spinning. βπ» @risenow.us”.
