Report: DC Universe Casts Esai Morales as Deathstroke in Titans

Esai Morales will reportedly take on the role of Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke in the upcoming season of Titans.

Deadline provides the following character description from Titans’ producers:

“Slade Wilson is known for being DC’s deadliest assassin. While serving his country, Slade became an elite soldier before government testing enhanced his physiology to near superhuman levels, putting him on a path of darkness and revenge. To his family, Slade is a father and husband, but to the rest of the world, he is feared by many as the infamous Deathstroke; selling his services to the highest bidder as the ruthless assassin that never gives up and never misses.”

Deathstroke also known as Deathstroke the Terminator was originally created by Marv Wolfman and Geroge Perez and first appeared in [easyazon_link identifier=”B0089NTM2M” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]The New Teen Titans #2[/easyazon_link]. The character would become the Teen Titans greatest villain. Their first run in came after Deathstroke took over his son’s contract to kill the Teen Titans. He would actually capture the Teen Titans and was planning to kill them by testing a Promethium bomb against them. However, the Teen Titans were able to escape, but not before Deathstroke severely injured Beast Boy.

Deathstroke would even hatch a plan with Terra in order to infiltrate the Teen Titans and destroy them from within. This would lead into one of the best comic book stories of all time, the [easyazon_link identifier=”140127577X” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Judas Contract[/easyazon_link]. With Terra’s help Deathstroke systematically takes down each of the Teen Titans when they are at their weakest. The story shows off Deathstroke’s cunning, his physical prowess, and his skill as a tactician and strategist, and his willpower.

Deathstroke will face off against Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson, Anna Diop’s Starfire, Teagan Croft’s Raven, and Ryan Potter’s Beast Boy in the DC Universe show Titans.

This won’t be the first time Deathstroke has been featured in a TV series. The character was one of the most popular on The CW’s Arrow played by Manu Bennett. Deathstroke is also heavily featured in the Teen Titans animated series as well as the most recent Teen Titans Go! to the Movies film. Joe Manganiello also brought Deathstroke to life in the post-credit scene for Justice League. There was a rumored solo movie in development back in 2017, but it’s unclear if DC and Warner Bros. are still pursuing it. Rumors in June of 2018 suggested Deathstroke might be the villain in the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel, but that was before James Gunn was brought in for the film.

Esai Morales is a veteran actor, who has quite a bit of experience playing police officers on television. He portrayed Chief Lugo in Chicago P.D., NCIS Deputy Director Louis Ochoa in NCIS: Los Angeles, Section Chief Mateo Cruz in Criminal Minds, and Lt. Tony Rodriguez in NYPD Blue. He also gave voice to Papi in the animated Dora the Explorer TV series.

He isn’t a stranger to playing a bad guy. He expertly played a drug lord named Del in Netflix’s Ozark television series. He also portrayed Jorge Castillo, one of the primary antagonists in How to Get Away With Murder.
