Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Chose Male Protagonist Due to Rey’s Prominence in Current Movie Trilogy
Since E3, buzz has been building for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the new single player Star Wars adventure game from Respawn Entertainment.
Gamers and Star Wars fans are excited to get their hands on the game, which launches November 15th for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The excitement has been tempered by a bit of controversy, however. A small minority in the community have expressed concern that the game’s protagonist, Cal Kestis, is white, male, and human.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, game director Stig Asmussen addressed the vision for Cal Kestis,“Yes, we talked about doing an alien creature, we talked about doing a different gender, but we arrived at where we were because at the time, Rey was kind of the thing for Star Wars, so it made a lot more sense for us to have a male protagonist.”
Asmussen cited the importance of a player having a human connection with the character, and although they didn’t go with an alien, he personally thought the idea of an alien was cool.
Some other interesting details about the game were touched on in the interview:
- Force powers grow as the player levels up.
- There will be three difficulty modes
- No playable demo
I believe Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is going to be a Star Wars experience fans will love adding to their collection.
Here’s a look at some of the gameplay.
