Rumor: Dacre Montgomery of Stranger Things on the Wishlist to Play Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock is guaranteed for his big-screen debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and the role has become quite the coveted one in the eyes of fans. The list of potentials keeps growing and another name added to the list may actually get serious consideration from Disney, too.

A source told We Got This Covered that Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery “is being connected to the character behind the scenes.” The caveat is he is only “one of several” on a wishlist and not the absolute favorite.

Who’s Going to Be Adam Warlock?

Looper gushed over the idea, remarking how much Montgomery looks like the virtual frontrunner Zac Efron. “It seems that if Guardians of the Galaxy 3 can’t get [sic] Zefron,” says the site, “then production might just turn to his doppelganger.”

Efron is one of the “several” on a host of wishlists. Bosslogic created fan art of the High School Musical actor as the cosmic hero Warlock. The graphic artist posted his piece on Instagram, saying it was a response to a casting rumor he heard a lot lately.

Buzz certainly has been getting around that Efron quickly was becoming the favorite. Before Bosslogic, Reddit artist and user iMizzuri unleashed his own rendering of Efron as Warlock.

Henry Cavill was given the Adam Warlock makeover also by Bosslogic, based on a still of him in The Witcher. But, he doesn’t appear to be in the running.

Auditions will start until November so you should keep an eye on everyone. Especially Montgomery, who has also been mooted for Wolverine in the next Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition, he played Jason, the Red Ranger, in 2017’s Power Rangers reboot, but he isn’t likely to return to that role.

Currently, Dacre Montgomery can be seen in the third season of Stranger Things reprising his role as the rebellious teen Billy, who is a big part of the new evil looming over the town of Hawkins. Efron joins him on Netflix as Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. And Cavill’s Netflix bow in The Witcher begins streaming later this year.

GOTG 3 shouldn’t see production get underway until 2020 to make a 2021 release date. Director and writer James Gunn is working on The Suicide Squad at Warner Bros. first.
