Rihanna Addresses Whether She Will Be Poison Ivy in The Batman
We touched on a rumor last week that singer Rihanna is on a shortlist to be Poison Ivy in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The rumor was fed by Boss Logic fan art based on a photo of her posing in her own brand of lingerie. Boss Logic rendered the pop star as Gotham’s verdant villainess and posted the mock-up to Instagram. (Related: Rumor: Pop Star Rihanna Could Be the Next Poison Ivy)
Rihanna fanned the flames further when she showed off a pointed, high-heeled boot from the same line of lingerie in a video on her own Instagram. In the caption, she references the Batmobile: “bat-mobile! but make it fashion!” it reads.
ET caught up with the Barbados-born performer at her Diamond Ball event where she opened up to the TV newsmagazine. She cleared up her alleged attachment to Reeves’ new film and clarified her “obsession” with Poison Ivy.
Speaking of her Instagram video and what it might allude to, she said:
“No, that has nothing to do with Poison Ivy. That [post] has a lot with Batman [because] I have separate obsessions/I have a bigger obsession with Poison Ivy, I’m just being honest. And yeah, I dyed my hair red because of Uma Thurman in the original.”
As for if she is playing Ivy, Rihanna reveals she has not been contacted but it is something she is excited to possibly do, saying:
“You know what, they didn’t call me yet. But if they did, I would love to go in and try out because Poison Ivy is one of my obsessions in life. I did it for Halloween one year, I mean come on!”
Dressing as DC villains for Halloween is something going around. Eiza Gonzalez and Polar star Vanessa Hudgens both dressed as Catwoman and stirred rumors they might be up for that role. (Related: Rumor: Polar’s Vanessa Hudgens to Play Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ Batman)
The Batman will reportedly have an assortment of six or more Gotham Rogues. Penguin and Catwoman top the list followed by Two-Face, Riddler, Mad Hatter, Firefly, and Ivy herself. (Related: Report: Matt Reeves’ The Batman to Feature Penguin, Catwoman, and ‘Half-a-Dozen Villains’)
Poison Ivy could be offered new life as part of DC’s Extended Universe in Reeves’ take on the Dark Knight and/or a Gotham City Sirens movie.
Robert Pattinson is the only verified casting for The Batman so far although he might star alongside Andy Serkis and an ethnic or biracial actress chosen as Catwoman. (Related: Rumor: Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Could Feature a Catwoman of Color or Mixed Race)
