Sonic The Hedgehog’s Opening Weekend Box Office Projections Speed Upward

Sonic the Hedgehog’s box office tracking for opening weekend continues to tick upward.

The latest prediction from box office tracking website, Box Office Pro, sees Sonic the Hedgehog now opening with a $36 million opening weekend. However, they do indicate it could fall anywhere between $33 million and $38 million.

Back at the end of January, Box Office Pro predicted the film would earn between $30 million and $35 million with them specifically homing in on $33 million.

Sonic the Hedgehog Box Office Prediction Tracking UPWARD

In less than a month the film’s predicted domestic opening weekend has increased close to 10%.

And the film hasn’t just been trending upwards in the past month. It’s been trending upward since Box Office Pro made their initial projection back in December. At the time they predicted the film would earn between $20 million and $30 million with a specific estimate of $26 million.

That’s an almost 40% increase in their opening weekend projections.

Not only is the film’s opening weekend tracking for bigger numbers, but so is its overall haul at the box office. Box Office Pro is now predicting the film rake in $125 million in its run. That’s about $20 million less than Detective Pikachu did. Detective Pikachu brought in $144.1 million last year according to The-Numbers.

That overall box office prediction is up from January when Box Office Pro predicted it would bring in $115 million. Their original prediction was $86 million.

If Box Office Pro’s prediction pans out Sonic: The Hedgehog could have the third biggest weekend in 2020 and become the third highest grossing film of 2020 behind Bad Boys For Life and 1917.

Sonic the Hedgehog arrives in theaters on February 14th.

The film stars James Marsden,Ben Scwartz, Tika Sumpter, and Jim Carrey.

It is directed by Jeff Fowler with a script written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.
