Senran Kagura Publisher Marvelous Inc. Bans “Any Fan-Service or Sexually Suggestive Content” From Official Discord Server

Senran Kagura and Rune Factory publisher Marvelous Inc. has recently announced that any and all sexually suggestive content, even content related to their titles, will “no longer be allowed anywhere” on their official Discord server.

Screenshots of the announcement were provided by Twitter user @YOG3NSHA, who stated, “the official Marvelous Discord Server just dropped a giant nuke” and offered their unconfirmed suspicion that Chinese conglomerate Tencent had “involvement” in this decision:

According to the screenshots, the announcement of these changes came on August 27^th . They began with Marvelous Europe PR & Community Manager Scott Emsen stating that “from 28^th August 2020 the Marvelous server will be changed and channels will be removed”

Users were then informed that “More importantly – and this is a big one – any fan-service, or sexually suggestive content and art work will no longer be allowed anywhere on the server.”:

On the topic of the company’s own games, which boast a high level of fan service and sexual content, Emsen noted that “At the moment, this even applies to SENRAN KAGURA, VALKYRIE DRIVE, JET GIRLS etc related content.”

It appears that Marvelous issued this content ban in an attempt to make the server more viable as a professional platform.

Emsen also told users that this decision had “nothing to do with Sony, Discord or any external influence”, but rather came about “due to internal discussions within MarvEU on how the server could be used in an official capacity.”:

Another admin, Drakeo, explained that the changes came about because of “an internal discussion […] between Marvelous staff and (Scott and internal) and then between Scott and us Mods.”:

This announcement comes just days after fans received news that Senran Kagura NewWave G Burst, a card-based gatcha title based on the franchise, would end service on October 30^th, 2020.

As of writing, Marvelous has not publicly commented on these changes.
