Marvel Studios Executive Claims Thor: Love And Thunder Pushes “The Boundaries Of What’s Comfortable And What Should Be Expected”
Marvel Studios’ Director of of Visual Development Andy Park, whose resume includes WandaVision, Black Widow, Shang-Chi, The Marvels, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and more, recently had some bold comments about Taika Waititi’s upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder film.
While speaking with ScreenRant, Park said, “There’s a reason why there’s been over a decade of successful movies and just why this franchise is growing.”
He then claimed Thor: Love and Thunder pushes boundaries saying, “So Thor: Love and Thunder falls right into that where it’s just pushing the boundaries of what’s comfortable and what should be expected. ”
“You’ll be surprised and push these characters and the visuals go along with that,” he added.
Park then said, “I think [Waititi] said it in some interview where he’s just like, he’s surprised that he’s even, he shouldn’t be allowed to make a movie like this. And I get it. This movie is crazy wild. It’s so much fun.”
“And I simply cannot wait for everyone to see it. Because it was so much fun to work on and design so many characters and do keyframes for. It’s going to be a good one. It’s going to be fun,” he concluded.
Back in June, Waititi announced he had wrapped filming on Thor: Love and Thunder and claimed, “This film is the craziest thing I’ve ever done and I’m honoured to bust my ass and have a nervous breakdown so you can all see it in May 2022.”
In July, Waititi spoke with Empire where he further described the film as “the craziest film I’ve ever done.”
He explained, “Well, just between (me and) you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done.”
“If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense,” Waititi elaborated.
He further detailed, “It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”

Natalie Portman confirmed the film adapt the Mighty Thor storyline where her character, Jane Foster, goes through cancer treatment.
She told Yahoo! Life back in October 2020, “I’m trying to think — it’s based on the graphic novel of the Mighty Thor. She’s going through cancer treatment and is a superhero on the side.”
The film will also see Christian Bale take on the role of Gorr God the Butcher. Vin Diesel also confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in the film.
Diesel told ComicBook.com, “The director talked to me and Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which would be very interesting. Nobody knows, but maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”
Waititi also told Variety back in February 2020 that he wants to make Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie explicitly queer.
He stated, “I think so. The IP is not mine. But with the actors, I feel whatever makes them comfortable — whether they feel like there’s a natural choice, or a natural way for that character to go — then I’m pretty supportive. If Tessa wanted to do that, I’m in.”
