‘Scream’ Franchise Creator Kevin Williamson Will Adapt David Fincher’s ‘The Game’ And Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’ For TV

Screenwriter Kevin Williamson breathed life back into the slasher genre with Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but he might be the last person you would anticipate reinterpreting Hitchcock or David Fincher.
That’s exactly what he is doing as, per Deadline, Williamson is setting his sights on serializing Fincher’s The Game and the Hitchcockian classic Rear Window as part of an overall deal with Universal Television. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of the Universal Television family,” he said to the outlet.
“When making television, it’s so important to have partners who believe, support, and inspire you. In Universal Television I have found exactly that. I’m excited to be working with such an amazing team doing what I love to do,” added Williamson.
The David Fincher thriller, which starred Michael Douglas and Sean Penn, was written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris. The pair are executive producing Williamson’s series, but someone else yet to be determined is going to write it. His Rear Window adaptation, meanwhile, shall find a home on Peacock.
Williamson is writing that and executive producing it with the team of John Davis and John Fox at Davis Entertainment. That’s not all either – Williamson is also developing an original concept called The Waterfront about a crime family in the Carolinas struggling to maintain their “fishing empire.” An adaptation of It Girl, a book by Ruth Ware, is in development too.

“Kevin is a prolific and brilliant creator with a proven track record of producing iconic hits for both the big and small screen,” commented President of Universal Television Erin Underhill to Deadline.
“He’s a trusted collaborator whose imagination is boundless and inspiring. We love our creative partnership with Kevin and his terrific team at Outerbanks [Entertainment]. We think fans will love everything they are cooking up,” she added.
Released in 1954, Rear Window was one of Alfred Hitchcock’s collaborations with Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly. Regarded as one of the most unparalleled thrillers in The Master of Suspense’s oeuvre, it was remade once already into a TV movie starring Christopher Reeve after his tragic accident.
