Spin-Off Legacy Sequel To ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ On The Way From ‘Cobra Kai’ Producers And Paramount

The question of how and why something is being made has become a refrain among us keeping an eye on Hollywood, and a tired one at that. Still, Tinseltown isn’t stopping the train anytime soon. In fact, it just made a stop to pick up Ferris Bueller.
That’s right. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is getting the sequel treatment a couple of decades too late. Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast and The InSneider newsletter reports a spinoff of the beloved film is being produced by Paramount.
The sequel/spinoff shall chronicle the adventures of the two valets played by Larry Jenkins and Richard Edson who take off in Cameron’s Ferrari through the streets of Chicago in the span of a day.

This project known as Sam and Victor’s Day Off will serve as the feature debut of director David Katzenberg who has previously directed episodes of the shows Young Rock, 911: Lone Star, and The Goldbergs. Katzenberg also executive produced the latter ABC family comedy.
He teams with the co-creators of the hit Karate Kid-based series Cobra Kai who are producing this venture. Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald are joined by Paul Young of Argyle Media, Dina Hiller of Counterbalance as executive producer; and associate producers Stephen Cedars, Benji Kleiman, and Scott Yacyshyn.
Although it sounds like the kind of thing that would end up on Paramount Plus, the studio is hopeful for a theatrical release. They are also in the process of finding writers, which could be what makes or breaks this film.
Ferris Bueller is one of the comedies most synonymous with the 80s and its creator John Hughes. It stars Matthew Broderick as the title slick and cool teen who feigns illness to spend the day in the city with his friends Cameron (Alan Ruck) and Sloane (Mia Sara). They take a spin together in the fancy wheels belonging to Cameron’s dad that are a centerpiece of the plot.
The last time the film was spun off it was adapted into a short-lived generic sitcom. The Internet is rediscovering this iteration of Bueller, but while it starred a young Jennifer Aniston before she was famous, the show is best left forgotten.
