The DCU found its Girl of Steel in House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock, who grew the cast in Metropolis, but it hasn’t populated Gotham with its counterparts so far.

The in-development Brave and The Bold doesn’t have a Batman or Robin, yet there are suggestions for a few of their allies around the Internet if you know where to look.

One of them was set to star in a solo film; however, Batgirl was canceled when it was near completion and James Gunn – rising to power at DC Studios under David Zaslav – wiped the slate clean.

Hence, while the door is theoretically open for Leslie Grace to step back into the shoes of Barbara Gordon, speculation holds that she is not interested. Fortunately, Gunn likely has other ideas and so do the minds behind YouTube channel KH Studios.

Specializing in fan-made “concept trailers” per their introductory description, the channel created a trailer for a new version of Batgirl that places Wednesday and Scream star Jenna Ortega in the lead.

Using clips from The Batman, Justice League, Suicide Squad, and Batwoman – along with a helping of AI for deepfaking Ortega’s face – KH inserts the actress into a dark and troubled Gotham that needs a hero.

The responsibility falling on her shoulders must take a toll as she talks with a therapist throughout the clip.

Interestingly, this therapy session has a payoff at the end, which is the revelation that the shrink Barbara speaks to is one Harleen Quinzel – i.e., Harley Quinn as played by Margot Robbie – possibly making her the villain of the hypothetical, nonexistent film pitched by the trailer.

JK Simmons is also accounted for as Barbara’s dad, Commissioner Jim Gordon, although his return to DC movies is about as likely as Leslie Grace’s – despite how welcome back with open arms he might be.

For what it is, the fake trailer is put together well, aside from a couple of jank shots of Ortega in costume, and raises some interesting potentialities for the DCU.

That said, if Milly Alcock’s casting as Supergirl is any indication, Gunn and DC will probably stick to the comics and cast a redhead as Batgirl (for once).
