Post-Apocalyptic Steam Punk Manga ‘Gachiakuta’ To Receive Long Awaited Anime From Studio Bones
While fans of post-apocalyptic stories may have been disappointed by Furisoa: A Mad Max Saga, their future has just gotten a little brighter with the long-awaited announcement that the Kodansha-published manga Gachiakuta is finally being adapted into an anime.

Created by Fire Force mangaka Atsushi Ohkubo’s hand-selected successor Kei Urana and featuring cover work by Japanese graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou, Gachiakuta tells the tale of an alternate Earth in which man has thoroughly polluted every inch of the planet with both physical trash and negative emotions.
Above the surface, free from any of the lingering effects of their forefathers’ environmental indifference, live both the wealthy Sky People and the ‘impure’ Tribes people, the latter of whom are relegated to various slums.
Meanwhile, those remaining below in The Abyss – many of whom were banished from above for committing serious crimes – are not so lucky, as they must contend with both the harsh conditions of the Earth’s surface as well as the fact that the aforementioned pollution has led to the birth of monstrous, destructive demons known as Abberrant Beasts.
One such outcast is Rudo, a young man who was tossed from his place among the Sky People after being framed for the murder of his adopted father, Regto.
As he falls into the dark unknown, Rudo vows vengeance on both Regto’s murderer and The Sky People in general.
Making landfall in one of the planet’s most Aberrant Beast-infested zones, Rudo is rescued from being mauled by a fellow surface dweller named Enjin, a young man who soon helps him discover his innate potential to become a ‘Giver’ – the term used for those special few capable of wielding the Beasts’ only weakness, the mysterious ‘Jinki’ weapons.
Though reluctant to divert his attention in the slightest from his goals, Rudo eventually agrees to join Enjin’s ‘Cleaner’ organization – a group specializing exterminating the vicious trash beasts – in the hopes that, by doing so, he can find more information on the man responsible for his troubles.
Its existence and release date announced on June 12th by way of its first teaser trailer and a new commemorative illustration by Urana and Andou, the Gachiakuta anime will be produced by the world-renowned studio behind the Fullmetal Alchemist and Mob Psycho 100 adaptations, Bones.
Further, the series will be helmed by rookie director Fumihiko Suganuma, with Jujutsu Kaisen scriptwriter Hiroshi Seko penning its script and Classroom☆Crisis animator Satoshi Ishinio serving as both its chief animation director and character designer.
Following the announcement, Urana took to his personal Twitter account to express his excitement at the fact that his dreams of the series being animated by Bones were finally coming true.
“To those who have supported me, thank you for your patience!,” the mangaka wrote. “I never thought my dream of having my manga animated at bones would come true, they emphasized. “I am really happy! Please continue to support Gachiakuta as many different people are putting their heart and soul into making this film! We would be very happy if everyone in the world could see it!”
Per the anime’s official Twitter account, Kodansha and Studio Bones will unveil an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Gachiakuta adaptation during the series’ dedicated Anime Expo panel on July 4th at 3:15 pm.
The Gachiakuta anime is slated for a 2025 release.
