On Thanksgiving, Sword Art Online fans were able to log onto Crunchyroll to stream Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night.  Now, Crunchyroll and Aniplex are giving Sword Art Online fans an early Christmas present by announcing the theatrical release dates for the highly anticipated sequel Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night.

On December 13th, Crunchyroll announced release dates for when the anime streaming platform along with partner Aniplex of America will be installing the second cinematic installment in the Sword Art Online Progressive franchise Scherzo of Deep Night into theaters across Crunchyroll’s English-speaking territories. 

Originally released in Japanese theaters in October 2022, Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night is the long awaited sequel to the 2021 fan-favorite Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night

The second cinematic entry of the Sword Art Online Progressive franchise is an anime adaptation of the fourth volume of the light novel by Reki Kawahara .

Set two months after players were trapped inside of  the VMMORPG Sword Art Online, Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night has Asuna Yuuki (CV: Haruka Tomatsu – Elf in Uncle from Another World) and Kazuto “Kirito, The Black Swordsman, Beater, Kazu” Kirigaya (CV: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka – Inosuke Hashibira in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) raiding for treasures in the massive mazelike ruin on Aincrad’s fifth floor.

With the assistance of the latest addition to their party the female Information Broker Argo (CV: Shiori Izawa – Pochita in Chainsaw Man), clearing the quests and side quests on the fourth and ultimately the fifth floors should be a snap.

However, a major conflict erupts between the two biggest guilds in Sword Art Online, the Aincrad Liberation Squad (ALS) and the Dragon Knights Brigade (DKB).  Behind the scenes of the conflict, are a group of sinister Beta players who are attempting to manipulate both of the guilds from the shadows.

Fans will be able to log into the theatrical release of Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night in either Japanese with English subtitles or English Dub in the United Kingdom and Ireland on February 1st, in Australia and New Zealand on February 2nd and the United States and Canada on February 3rd.

The official run time for the film is 100 minutes.
