Crunchyroll revealed a brand new trailer for the upcoming horror anime Jujutsu Kaisen that will stream exclusively on their service outside of Asia.
Not only did they drop the trailer, but they also revealed some key art for the series as well.
Jujutsu Kaisen is based off the manga written by Gege Akutami that began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018 and has gone on to release 11 tankobon volumes as of June 2020.
Crunchyroll tells Bounding Into Comics that the series currently has over 6.5 million copies in circulation.
The dark fantasy horror series follows teenager Yuji Itadori as he finds himself engaged in an battle between sorcerers and powerful curses. He even becomes possessed himself.
Here’s the official description from Crunchyroll:
“Hardship, regret, shame: the negative feelings that humans feel become Curses that lurk in our everyday lives. The Curses run rampant throughout the world, capable of leading people to terrible misfortune and even death. What’s more, the Curses can only be exorcised by another Curse.
Itadori Yuji is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a friend who has been attacked by Curses, he eats the finger of the Double-Faced Specter, taking the Curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with the Double-Faced Specter. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Gojo Satoru, Itadori is admitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Technical High School of Sorcery, an organization that fights the Curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a Curse to exorcise a Curse, a life from which he could never turn back.”
The anime series will be animated by The God of High School’s MAPPA animation studio with Sunghoo Park directing.
Crunchyroll further teased the series is expected to debut on their streaming service sometime in October. No firm date was released yet.
