Gundam: Char’s Counterattack Coming to Theaters for Mobile Suit Gundam’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

Fathom Events and Sunrise announced they will be bringing Gundam: Char’s Counterattack to U.S. theaters to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Gundam: Char’s Counterattack was the first theatrical release in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise back in 1988. The film is set in the Universal Century timelines and marked the culmination of the original saga that began with Mobile Suit Gundam and continued with Mobil Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

Amuro and Char, two best mobile suit pilots who fought together against Titans after the Zeon’s independency war, must face each other in a fateful duel where the Char-led Neo-Zeon, attempt to drop a gigantic meteor and nuclear weapons on Earth in order to cause Nuclear Winter to wipe out its inhabitants.

Fathom Events and Sunrise will screen the film in select theaters on December 5 at 7:00 p.m. This new screening has been re-masted from the original anime film.

The film will be screened with English-language subtitles.

Along with the screening of the remastered film, an exclusive interview with Gundam anime creator Yoshiyuki Tomino as well as new footage from Anime NYC 2019 will air during the film.
