Netflix Announces Witcher Anime Film: The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

Netflix is going all-in with The Witcher franchise as they recently announced they are working on a new anime film titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

The film comes from Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich and screenwriter Beau DeMayo.

The movie will be produced by Studio Mir, the studio behind the Legend of Korra.

Netflix gave us a short synopsis that reads, “The anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, will take us back to a new threat facing the Continent.”

Based on this information it appears the anime film will tie-in with The Witcher series.

The announcement came after Redanian Intelligence uncovered a Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) entry detailing the series.

In their initial reporting Redanian Intelligence reported DeMayo, who wrote The Witcher’s third episode “Betrayer Moon,” would be writing the anime as noted in the WGA entry.

They also speculated the show will more than likely center around Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. In fact, they believe he might have already been recording his voice roles given his limited activity in promoting the first season of the show.

That speculation does appear to have some validity as showrunner Lauren Hissrich noted she’s been keeping the anime a “secret for over a year.”

Redanian Intelligence also reports that actor Harriet Kershaw may be providing voice work for the show as well.

No other details about the anime have been revealed at this time.

Production for The Witcher Season 2 is already underway as Hissrich confirmed she had returned by sharing a picture of a forklift.

She also shared a photo of her team scouting filming locations.

Netflix reported that 76 million households tuned in to watch The Witcher. However, there is a caveat, that number represents households who watched two minutes of the series.
