Rising of the Shield Hero to Get 2nd and 3rd Seasons

Popular anime Rising of the Shield Hero will receive a second and third season from Kadokawa and Kinema Citrus.

In the announcement, they confirmed that Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo will “have new friends and will fight new enemies.” (Related: Crunchyroll’s The Rising Of The Shield Hero Anime Attacked by Feminists and Social Justice Warriors!)

Based on an image accompanying the announcement, the second season will adapt the Spirit Tortoise arc.

The anime is based off the web novel written by Aneko Yusagi. It would then be adapted into a light novel and published by Media Factory featuring illustrations by Seira Minami. As of June 2019, there have been twenty-two volumes published and as well as a spin-off novel titled The Reprise of the Spear Hero. The series would then receive a manga adaptation by Aiya Kyū. The manga has had 1 million tankobon volumes in print as of January 2019.

Crunchyroll describes Rising of the Shield Hero as “one of the platform’s most popular series to date.” The series debuted on the streaming platform in January and broadcasts an English-language dub alongside the simulcast.
