Shi creator Billy Tucci and Crusade Comics announced they will be bringing two exclusive editions of Shi: The Way of the Warrior #1 to New York Comic Con. The covers for both editions feature an homage to Spider-Man.
The first limited edition, Amazing Spider-Man #300 Homage Exclusive Newsprint Edition, will be limited to 500 copies. This edition will sell for $10 a copy and will be signed free of charge upon request by Billy Tucci. Not only does this limited edition give an homage to McFarlane’s Spider-Man #300 cover, but Tucci details he attempted to replicate the cover stock and interior quality as well.
“I tried to replicate the same cover stock and interior quality. After all, the greatest comic books in history have all been printed on newsprint!”
The second limited edition, Actual Metal Edition, will be limited to 30 copies. This edition will sell for $125. It will also be signed free of charge upon request by Billy Tucci.
Both copies will be available for purchase in Artist Alley at Tucci’s Table L20. For those unable to attend New York Comic Con, Tucci is offering a pre-sale on his website.
Tucci explained why he decided to homage Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man #300 cover:
“Growing up, my favorites were Daredevil, Spider-Man, Werewolf By Night and DC’s war
comics, but by the time I had gotten to high school my interests had strayed elsewhere. “But I’ll never forget that day back in art college when I first saw ASM #300. It literally was life-
changing for me. David Michelinie’s writing and Todd McFarlane’s free-wheeling, dynamic art rekindled that old love and made me believe that I, too, could make a living making comics.”
And just as a reminder, here’s the original cover for Spider-Man #300 by Todd McFarlane.
Tucci added:
“With that one book, “I fell back in love with comics. Todd and David had a fan in me for life, and I’ve waited 25 years to illustrate my own homage to ASM #300. I just HAD to make this comic to coincide with Shi’s 25 th anniversary and I am forever in debt to Todd and David for their inspiration!”
New York Comic Con takes place beginning on Thursday October 3. It runs through the weekend with its last day on Sunday, October 6th. Tucci’s booth will be located at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. He will be signing daily at his booth located at table L20.
Along with his Shi exclusives, Tucci will have copies of Zombie-Sama, the Big, Big Overstreet Price Guide Vol. 49, and other works available for purchase.
