The DC Comics Bombshells including Wonder Woman, Batwoman, and Supergirl will return for a brand-new digital-first series in August titled Bombshells United.
The Bombshells will once again wage battle against the evildoers of World War II. However, in this series they won’t be fighting in Europe, but will take their abilities to the United States!
The series will once again be penned by Marguerite Bennett as well as artist Marguerite Sauvage.
“BOMBSHELLS UNITED refocuses our story as an alternate history and asks the question, ‘If you could live this life over, what would you do differently?’” says Bennett. “We journey back to different theaters of the war, and will tell stories of defining moments of the characters there — both the stories as they unfold within the BOMBSHELLS universe, as well as information on how the true events played out.”
Bennett continued:
In particular, I was inspired — with some trepidation — to tell this new chapter of BOMBSHELLS after realizing that this dark chapter of American history was being overlooked, ignored, or even erased from our national narrative. I read a variety of novels and history texts, took several trips to Manzanar and spoke with volunteers. Then I deferred to a variety of Asian-American creators and editors in order to make sure that the story I was creating was respectful, and that I was telling an honest and truthful story, that drew heavily from the experiences of those who underwent this atrocity, and survived with power and grace. I want to highlight something that should never be forgotten or removed from our story.
She concluded:
I very much hope the new series is fierce, fun, emotional, educational, and powerful in and of itself, in the context of our past and our present, and reminds us of the chance to better our future — to be better, next time.
As you most likely imagined Bennett and Sauvage’s new Bombshells United story focuses on internment camps here in the United States. The story begins as Wonder Woman heads to Arizona after receiving a request for help from Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark. Both Troy and Sandsmark are forced from their homes and placed in internment camps according to Executive Order 9066. Wonder Woman sets out to rescue them, but will meet resistance from the very same soldiers she was fighting side by side with in Europe.

This new DC Bombshell series aims to focus on one hero or a group of heroes for each story arc. This allows for more in-depth story telling.
The first issue hits digital shelves on Friday, August 25th. Print issues will be available on September 6th. Each print issue will collect two digital chapters.
