Taking a play out of the Marvel Comics playbook, DC Comics announced a brand new Old Lady Harley series that will be written by Frank Tieri with art by Mauricet.
The series spins out of the events of Harley Quinn #42. It will age Harley Quinn 30 years as she becomes a little wiser and whole lot crazier!
“Think of it this way… if HARLEY QUINN #42 was your appetizer, then OLD LADY HARLEY, that’s your main course right there,” said writer Frank Tieri. “Your big, fat prime rib with a fully loaded baked potato, creamed spinach with everything is covered in gravy.”
The series will be five issues long and offer a deep dive into why Harley Quinn opted for seclusion. In a press release from DC Comics, they explain the story will be told “through flashbacks [and] we’ll see what went on between Harley and the Joker and how it drove her into seclusion.”
This will be an “insane version of a future of DC Universe” that will see Harley Quinn trying to find some peace in her life after she frees New York City of her feral Gang of Harleys. All she wants to do is enjoy some peace and quiet in her heavily guarded coastal paradise. Unfortunately, the Laughing Boys Gang has other ideas. They will pursue Harley to the ends of the Earth in order to drag her in front of their leader.
Just who is their leader? It’s unclear, but it’s heavily implied it could be the Joker. But in this insane future, Harley Quinn killed him with her bare hands. How in the world could he still be alive? Nevertheless, the leader of the Laughing Boys Gang is alive and well and Harley is going to need help. Will she turn to President Power Girl or flee to the 51st of Atlantis? What will Harley do in Old Lady Harley #1?
I’m not going to lie, this looks rather insane and could be a very fun five-issue miniseries. Plus that cover art just looks fantastic. It’s like Jack and the Beanstalk, but with Joker and Harley Quinn.
Old Lady Harley #1 hits comic book shelves on October 24, 2018!
