DC Comics Publisher Dan DiDio Announces Plans to Expand DC Giants at Walmart

Dan DiDio took to Facebook to clarify that DC Comics will be expanding their DC Giants at Walmart line.

DiDio wrote on Facebook, “Successful and continuing. For those fans of the DC Giants at Walmart, have to clear up some misinformation making the rounds. Just want to let you know these books are doing well, so well that we are looking to expand the number of original pages in each book and include distribution to the direct market. Look for these and new titles later this year. The promise is to keep it one of the best values and reading experiences in the market. Best, DD”

He would include a photo of a number of the Walmart exclusive books.

DC Comics announced in January they would be expanding the 100-Page Giant Comics titles from four to six.

The new titles included a Swamp Thing 100-Page Giant and The Flash 100-Page Giant.

DC Comics 100-Page Giant Comics titles include new original stories combined with what DC Comics calls “flashback content from popular DC story eras such as DC Rebirth, the New Age of Heroes and the New 52.”

The Swamp Thing story would include an original story by Tim Seeley and artist Mike Perkins titled “Desert of Ash.” DC stated the story would feature “Swamp Thing and hit witch companion Briar as they face the pyromaniac Char Man, who possesses the ability to control flames, a power granted by the elemental spirits of fire itself.”

Subsequent Swamp Thing issues would feature a two-part story from Seeley and artist Joëlle Jones. These two issues will introduce “a terrifying and potentially supernatural slasher stalking the swamps of Louisiana.”

DC Comics promised these issues would include “The Hunt” from Animal Man, “Raise Dem Bones” from  New 52 Swamp Thing, and “Death in a Small Town.”

The Flash 100-Page Giant would feature a new story from Gail Simone with art by Clayton Henry.

DC Comics described the story:

“In the 12-part arc “Glass Houses,” Barry Allen is dedicated to keeping the streets of Central City safe as the Fastest Man Alive. But when his old foe Mirror Master shows up looking to cause trouble, it’s up to the Flash to stop him.”

The book will also include New 52 Flash stories from Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato. It will also include stories from the 2004 Adam Strange story as well as the New 52 story of Shazam.

DC Comics will continue to publish the Justice League of America and Teen Titans Giants, but they will be relabeled. The Justice League of America book will be Wonder Woman 100-Page Giant #1. The Teen Titans 100-Page Giant will be Titans 100-Page Giant #1.

DC Comics also publishes Superman and Batman 100-Page Giant issues. Each issue retails at $4.99 at more than 3,000 participating Walmart stores.
