Etrigan returns in a brand new miniseries, Demon: Hell is Earth, from writer Andrew Constant and artists Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy.
One of the main goals of the miniseries is to explore the complicated relationship between Etrigan and his human keeper Jason Blood. In fact, Jason Blood has decided to lock away Etrigan forever, never allowing the demon loose ever again. However, that choice will be tested. After experiencing a haunting vision, Jason Blood travels to Death Valley in California where a supernatural weapon is unleashed. In the aftermath of the explosion, the Earth begins to crack, opening an entrance to Hell! It radically transforms Death Valley as well as Jason Blood and Etrigan. But this is only the beginning. The worst is yet to come!
Artist Brad Walker talked about his excitement working on Etrigan and tapping into a darker side of his artwork:
“I was excited to work on a great, slightly lesser exposed Kirby character,” reveals Walker. “As I’ve gotten into Andrew’s scripts, I’ve been having fun doing something tonally different than books I’ve worked on in the past. It’s fun tapping into moody, darker aspects of my art. It has a bit of a Vertigo vibe. It’s maybe not a side of me people know, but it’s stuff I am a fan of, just as much as the big, bombastic, superhero stuff.”
Demon: Hell is Earth looks to mix action and horror all the while examining conflicted relationships in a setting where war is literally hell.
